BMW E30 used a Getrag manual transmission
and so did the Mercedes (190e) of that era

Due to the shortage of manual transmission Mercedes in my area, does that mean an E30 tranny would possibly fit the merc?

Probably not. For example a Getrag 260, which was used for E30's, had two distinct versions of the integral bellhousing, depending on the associated engine (M20 or M30). I know General Motors used the 260 for the Cadillac CTS and some Holdens but than again those were probably just the internal components.

Potentially, but I wouldn't bet on it. The BMW E28 used a Getrag 265, which is the same basic gearbox as my Jag. However, they have different bellhousing bolt patterns, so you wouldn't be able to do a straight swap.

They do, however, have detachable bellhousings so you can take the basic 'box and swap that over, keeping the bellhousing in place.

Also: What engine is your 190? I thought only the 190 2.3/2.5 16v had a Getrag those days.

Hit up Sun Valley Transmission, they're based in CA - assuming you're in the US. Probably the largest transmission salvage / rebuild company in the state. If they don't have it, you're probably SOL.

Are you looking to swap an auto 2.3 / 2.3-16 to a manual or something? Can't imagine a Getrag so toasted you need to put in a whole new box.

Perhaps he's in a situation like me where he has an automatic transmission car and wants to put in a manual.

I've got an M103 3.0 in mine and though I've had the chance at a couple cars to source a manual transmission... It's so hard to justify them when they have literally no other parts that are usable to me.
